Message :And the confirmation of what actually broke on my car.
:For background, this is the post I made after I broke down at the strip and had to be towed home a few weeks back:
:La-Z-Link
:And this is what I found when looking under the car after getting it home:
:La-Z-Link
:Well, on sunday Sept. 26th I finally had time to tackle dropping the subframe, and with the help of tt.net member "James_Z32" (many thanks!) we got everything off the car in about 5.5 to 6 hours, including putting the car up on stands, and some of the disassembly of the suspension arms and the knuckle/axle assemblies after dropping the subframe itself.

:
:And here's what actually broke. Just like Kryponite729 predicted in my original post, this is the passenger side inner axle. Once I decoupled the diff from the half-shafts, this piece came off in my hand:
:
:
:And looking into the side of the diff:
:
:I managed to pick up a used diff for really cheap ($275 CDN), its from a 95TT in Ontario, apparently the guy did an NA subframe swap (not sure if he was a tt.net member).
:
:Generally speaking this diff seemed to be in fairly good shape. However there were a few things that bothered me. One of the ABS sensors was damaged, lots of surface rust, and I observed a bit of noise when I rotated the front companion flange by hand. Whereas on my diff it turns totally smooth and quiet. So this week I decided to take both diffs in to my local mechanic for inspection. He is probably going to transfer the good axle out of the spare diff into my diff if the rest of my diff checks out ok.
:Since I only have a two-car garage, I had to move most of my parts under the car in the meantime so I could continue using the other side of the garage for our other vehicles (my wife & I take turns parking our daily driver in the other spot).

:And also in the meantime, I've ordered new bushings for everything while I've got the subframe out. I figured that even though I know my driving/burnout technique needs work, I would still like to minimize any chance of brutal wheelhop reoccuring in the future. So for the rear I've got the following on the way in the mail: 300degree Aluminum subframe bushings, ES poly diff carrier bushings, and ES poly rear control arm bushings. I'm also going to take the opportunity to finally install my Kazama rear adj. camber arms. And while I'm doing all this and will need an alignment anyway, I also ordered the ES front control arm bushings, and I'll hopefully finally install my ES rack bushings too.
:If all goes according to plan my bushings will arrive sometime this week and assuming the diff is ready AND I have some help this weekend, everything should get completed this weekend. I'm just not looking forward to some of the actual bushing R&R.
:Now the only challenge is to finish all this before winter, which is quickly approaching up here in Northern Alberta. Before the car is ready for winter "storage" I'll still need to: fill up the gas tank (which is almost empty) and add fuel stabilizer, change the oil, and WASH the car (cause its filthy) so I can throw a car cover on it. But that's another story. :-)
:<< Oh yeah, and THANK YOU TARGETZ for hosting my pictures!!! >>

Thanks,
Mike
